Q: So there's this girl that I have been basically in love with since i was in high school. We are great friends now and she is one of my best friends. She has had a boyfriend for a while but has broken up with him recently, but still cares about him, just doesnt want to be with him. Anyway, i really wanna ask her out since i feel so stongly for her but i dont want to ruin our friendship or make it awkward later down the line, she truly is one of my best friends. So should i keep toughing it out since we go to different schools a few hours apart and eventually get over her and mantain the same friendship or should i take a chance at it and try to turn our friendship into something else....just wanna hear your opinion
A: Probably not the best timing right after a breakup. It’s rebound time for her. Especially if she still “cares about him.”
Stand down for at least a few more weeks (maybe a month) and see how things progress for her in the getting-over-him process for her. If she stops talking about him for a significant amount of time (not just 1 day!), then you can make your move. You may want to start with a joke about it so you can feel her out before making yourself too vulnerable.
“Too bad we’re such good friends. We’d be the perfect couple!”
Then you can see how she reacts and move forward from there. Hopefully she doesn’t give a big laugh like it was the best joke she’s ever heard!
