Q: What do I do if my dad hates my bf?
A: If there’s good reason for him hating him (bad kid, bad influence on you, bad values, etc) then you should think about your choice in a bf. If it’s judgmental (IE he has 10 tatoos or piercings or a Mohawk) then you should get them together on neutral terf (out to a casual dinner with the family) so they can get to know each other beyond the superficial.

Q: how do you get a date in a town with little available men? some people say i'm picky and some say i should hit the internet. i'm old-fashioned - i would rather meet someone in person than be romanced by a computer monitor.
what's a girl to do?
A: I say go inet. It’s a great way to meet people, especially in a small town but really anywhere. Give it a shot. You can keep it to yourself if you want but when you go out with someone, make sure someone knows where and when you go.

Q: I hooked up with a girl from one of my classes right before break and we talked a few times early on, but a couple weeks have passed since I've talked to her. I'm really into her, so my question is, how do I start things back up with her without seeming too forward now that we're back on campus?
A: Did you drop the ball or did she stop responding to your calls? If it was you, she probably doesn't think all that highly of you anymore but she'll probably respond favorable anyway. If it was her, she may be harder to win over. Just keep it casual at first and start talking again. Call her or text and tell her X just reminded you of her and you decided to call. That gets 'em every time and seems more natural.

Q: I slept with him and now he hasn’t called. HELP!
A: Tough break but it happens. Give him a little time (a couple days) but then write it off as a one night stand. Hopefully you had fun... and you were safe...
Sorry! Play harder to get next time.

Q: Do I have to dog sit my bf’s dog for a week while he goes to sunny FLA?
A: If you’ve been dating more than 3 months and you like dogs, you probably should. If you don’t like him or the dog then I can totally empathize and set the precedent now that you just don’t dog sit!

Q: I’m going out of town next week and my sister wants to set me up with someone in the town I’m visiting. There’s no way either of us are moving so I said no thanks. Is that stubborn and mean?
A: Definitely not! If neither of you wants to move then there’s really no reason to go out…. Unless you just want to have fun on a date with a guy your sister thinks will be good for you.

Q: So I get back from a weekend with my buds and I find out that my gf supposedly hooked up with an old flame. She denies it, says that although she slept in his bed and he tried to kiss her (and he woke up in his birthday suit and she was fully clothed) that nothing happened. Apparently the old flame is telling people that they hooked up and all her friends believe him. What’s a guy to do? Not sure who/what to believe. Not really in her character to cheat, but it seems like a pretty shady situation.
A: It’s so tough because you have no idea if she’s telling the truth or not. Sucks since the evidence is so shady. You could give her the benefit of the doubt and just make sure you’re open about it. Let her know that you’ll be on guard for a little because you can’t help but let your mind wonder and that means she should be overly open. If she gets a mystery call, she should go beyond open to let you know who it was, etc. The sooner you trust her again, the better. Just communicate with each other and ask for her sympathy and openness to get you thru it.
Let me know what you think!

Q: So I'm with this girl for almost three years of my life, three years! She cheats on me and tells me that she needs time and space, and tells my best friend that the reason why she did it was because I was to nice? Should I make moves on her friends now?
A: Wow! Biatch! I hate a cheater. I've actually been right there and it sucks. What she means by too nice is that you weren't the bad guy throw-her-against-the-elevator-type and you know what. Things probably got too comfortable and she starting wondering and looking for something different and passionate. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll find someone who deserves you. Don't sink to her level and date her friends just to get back at her. It'll be harder for you to move on if you keep too many connections...
Hope that helps a little.

Q: Dating Girl..
I've gotten myself into a bad spot. I have been dating a girl for a little more than a year. I've kind of lost the feeling lately but I had been trying to make it work. To further complicate things I had to move away for a job, kind of suddenly. Now we've got a long distance thing going that only makes it worse because I know I'm not feeling it. she says she misses me and things like that. I want to make it as easy as possible on her because I think she is great I just don't see a life together with her. Should I act normal until the next time I'm able to see her or is it okay to do it over the phone?
A: You should do it now. She’ll eventually respect you more for being honest and not stringing you along, than for waiting til you’re in person. Definitely tell her you didn’t plan it that way but you didn’t want her to waste her time either. Use the respect and honesty words a few times. She’ll probably hate you in the short term, but she can’t blame you for your feelings. Hope that helps!
Good luck!

Q: Dear Dating Girl,
I read your column almost every day, and think to myself "What excellent advice!" Now, I'm in a predicament of my own that I hope the same caliber of advice could be given.
You see, about a year ago I decided to attend a university that is sixteen hours from where I am now. Everything was going great: I got accepted, all of my credits transfer, they have an incredible program for my major, etc. Then, I met this guy who I have completely fallen in love with - we are dating...I'm not just being creepy. I can't(/don't want to) see myself living without him, but I also need to go to school. What would you do?
Thanks,
Confused but hopeful.
A: You have to do the long distance thing and see what happens. You can’t give up that perfect school for a guy, no matter how in love you are. If it’s meant to be, long distance will work! For real!
LMK what you think
