Q: I'm in law school and there's this girl who's super pretty, and she teaches a study group. If I'm not in her study group, is it weird if I go to it just to ask her if I can make her dinner?

A: Can you ask her out for dinner, or a drink or coffee instead of the too-intimate-make-her-dinner thing? You can definitely ask her out though.

Q: We began discussing a serious relationship, had our first kiss
and more, then... she went to a wedding she has RSVPed for with her
ex-boyfriend, got drunk, and ended up sleeping with him.

Fast-forward three months: she's pregnant. She really seems to adore me and want me in her life very much. I'm really confused... I care for her a lot, as I have for quite a long time, but I just don't know how she could do what she did if she loved me like I loved her.

Thoughts?

A: She sounds like trouble! The cheating is really bad. The pregnancy with the ex just ties her back to him for a long time (assuming she’s having the baby). You can stick with her if you feel like it’s amazing but don’t assume it’s going to be the end all!

Q: Here's the full story. The girl with the "sort-of bf" and I play volleyball together on a weekly basis. Well, more recently, we decided to do a sprint triathlon. So, we are both doing this group workout program, and we've been out biking together a few times. We talk pretty regularly at workouts, and a little email in between. She seems to have gotten really friendly, wants to talk, tells me it's "always" nice talking to me, smiles at me, laughs a lot. . . Am I reading it wrong, and she just wants to do stuff with me, but nothing more? Also, what about the bf? If she was my girl, I wouldn't want her spending time alone with some other guy. I kind of want to go a little further, but don't know if I should just ignore the bf thing, or ask her about it. I don't particularly want to be used as a momentary plaything, but I would like to believe she's not that kind. I have a really hard time believing that girls are what they seem.

A: Sounds like trouble but could be worth a try. Sounds like she’s seeing another guy but not too seriously. She either said sort of boyfriend for your benefit because she’s interested or she’s actually just playing the field. Either way, go forward with caution. You may be the next ‘sort of boyfriend!

Q: My ex-girlfriend has recently come back into my life. We broke up because of my being in the army and the long distance, but left on good terms. She has recently gotten out of a long term relationship, but I think she is interested in starting things up again. How do I know for sure without jumping in too quickly or completely pushing her away?

A: If you were boy and girlfriend, can you just ask her? If that’s too scary, you should let it play out for a little longer. Just ask if she wants to hang out or go to dinner and see how she reacts. You can keep it casual and see what happens. Or you give her the ole, “too bad it didn’t work out for us. We were good!” and see how she reacts.

Q: I’ve been waiting for my ex to call for a week now. we broke up and he’s not looking back. Is it over?

A: Who dumped who? He could be hurt and hiding as opposed to leaving for good. Otherwise, he’s probably done. Sad but true. You could call him to reach out and see what happens but if he doesn’t respond, then that’s it.

Q:Do you think I should move in with my boyfriend if he hasn’t proposed yet?

A: If you think it’s the real deal and you’ve been dating for a while (not just honeymoon period), then I’m ok with it. If it’s just for fun then you’re in for trouble!
