Q: Dear Dating Girl -
I love backpacking and I now want to hike the John Muir Trail...I cannot take 3 weeks off to do it the normal way, so I have asked a company called Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides to work with me...break it up into three segments so we can do one segment each year ... I would love for my wife to go with me, but she has never backpacked before...sooooo...in an attempt to win her over, I have arranged for the SYMG group to take us on a short, 4 day, 3 night hike in Yosemite, just the two of us with our guide...to test the waters, so to speak....I want this to be a great experience for her so she will want to hike JMT with me next summer...I could really use your advice...what can I do to have the best chance of success in making this trip a good one for the woman I love so she will want to go back?
A: Make sure she’s warm at night and not too hot by day.
Make sure her boots are broken in and fit perfectly.
Make sure her pack is light.
Keep her hydrated and well fed.
Keep things light-hearted and romantic. Sing to her on the trail. Massage her feet at the end of the day and cuddle a lot at night.
Make sure she gets a good night’s sleep.
Take good bug stuff – no one likes to be itching!
Be sweet and let her be a baby (sometimes) if she wants.
That's a pretty good way to keep her happy!
Love the Madness,
DG
