Q: So, my boyfriend and I have been together for almost 3 years... but the entire time, we have lived an hour and a half away from each other... I live in NY because of him.... I don't want to live here. But I love my boyfriend and he loves his NY job. I don't have many good friends here and considering he works 72 hours a week I am always by myself. I am not someone who likes be alone. He said when I want to move in with him, he will move to where I am, but until then, he is staying where he is... I have tried to get out to find friends but can’t find them at work or at the gym. Never seeing my boyfriend, having no social life and being away from my family are all wearing on me.
Any suggestions on what I should do? Do I have any options or is this what happens when you get older and fall in love...
A: You definitely need friends so it’s a matter of finding them. Does your bf have friends that have girlfriends? Can you go online to some chat room and make friends? Can you meet anyone else at the climbing gym? Do you belong to a workout place you can meet anyone.
If you start going to the same place at the same time, you become friends with people who have the same habit. So if you drink coffee at 8 every morning, you’ll make friends with the other coffee drinkers who always go at 8. It’ll take some repetition but it works!
If you find friends in the area, you’re bound to be happier. Then you can stay there and have a life with him.
Do you not want to move in with him? It sounded good until the ultimatum suggestion below!
You really need your own interests, friends and life in NY if he’s always going to work 72 hours/ wk. Sucks but you need that to make yourself happy!
Hope that helps a little.
